Checking other instagrams

Ok so we have to make a Instagram this week so i decided the best case scenario is to see how movies promote their movies on Instagram to see the vibes we go with ours.

Lady Bird

this movie has the same coming of age feel I think we are going for with our film. Now the photos are all different things it has a bright color scheme going for it that accurately represent the bright and warm aesthetic the movie has, i want to do a similar thing with our Instagram because we need to establish what the movie is going to be about without directly saying it and establishing a color scheme i feel is really important in filming but also specifically in marketing.

As well as the Instagram specifically is centered around the women barley showing any men in a any cover photo of the Instagram emphasizing the fact this women is targeted audience are girls, specifically the coming of age ones this shows strong women who they can look up to. So once we establish our target audience specifically we can use it to market our film.

They also use the font of the tittle in most post which is a great way to establish a brand, So i understand that this extremely important while marketing just the tittle as a logo of the brand so me and my group are brainstorming ideas on how to make our tittle font stand out while tying back to plot. with this we put thought and we think use a font that looks like a marker wrote it would be nice as it ties in with our film.

Edge of Seventeen (another coming of age movie)

This Instagram for the movie had more muted colors except for one which was the orange. The color directly brings your eyes to it because its so bright compared to the other muted colors. This shows the significance of the color (as well in marketing it just brings your eye to it) as it represents the main character. Now the orange isn't bright and its also muted but its brighter then the other colors showing that this movie will talk about how the main character potential is getting suppressed but its still there, which is a a good way to show a coming of age film.

This Instagram is also filled with reels that are always more engaging than photos as well as big bright words that are easy to read even if ur just seeing the cover. This makes marketing easier and helps people understand what your trying to say easier. I think this a route e should considered using on our Instagram.

Meeting with group

Today in class we were discussing our project and I think we decided on the general plot being about 2 girls who communicate back and fourth through writing in the bathroom stall. We are still trying to figure out what we want to do to show what their lives if we want to cut in and then out to the writing or if we want do a whole storyline that leads to writing but i know we want to have a montage to show the passage of time. We wanted to make the story more complex with showing the character interact out of the writings but we got advised to go in a different direction because it would be too much in 5 minuets to have the affect we want.

But it also led to many problems as we are trying to find a way around like the bathroom setting we are trying to establish is a hard place to film because obviously the bathroom is a private place and filming in a bathroom would be tricky. But one of my group member, Juan, mentioned we can  use his half bathroom and make a wall with carboard but we aren't sure what that would look like and if it would give the real affect we also were debating if filming in a bathroom in an office might work, if we can convince someone to let us film in there so we still have to scout out the location. But we were looking into buying washable markers so that we don't actually vandalize a bathroom.

Now obviously things are set for change like most projects, and a little more of the project needs to be flushed put but  like the way the project is going for now and i think with this idea the Instagram promotional can be very fun and creative.

Trinkets (cause why not)

So I instead of doing my work yesterday i started to watch a Netflix show called Trinkets .  But I realized this work as showing characterization where it shows the characters as not always in the right and has a lot of inner turmoil. This show is about these three girls who have all been sent to go to shoplifters anonymous and start a secret friendship. For our idea of having a growing friendship in this very secretive way I think we can take notes on how many of the characters interact and how with different setting their dynamic shifts, as they try to hide their friendship to others but they also are getting extremely close. As well as the fact that instead of helping each other they are bad influence on each other but also being the only people that can help their friends through a ruff time.

I think this show does a great way of showing how teenagers having this complicated relationship with everyone. One of the most interesting one is the relationship with there parents, where like many shows like showing teenagers with this hatred towards the parent. And even though they fight it shows each of the main girls having a good relationship with their parents even though they don't agree with them a 100% on the way. And having a relationship like this with the character we were planning to have that is dealing with internal homophobia that is heavily based on their parents disapproval, which would have a interesting relationship if the kid had a good relationship with their parent that could be ruined by coming out it brings in more complex story.

Another way I think this was a good watch to help with characterization is watching how each character ended up acting up and what happened. and how the inner turmoil is so clearly seen by their action and how they know what they are doing is wrong, in this case stealing, but cant help themselves because for a small time it helps them feel better about themselves. Its a small way of gaining control, and if we are able to show this in our film for a character that is hurting and wants a way to be able to gain a little control even if they know its wrong, which I do believe we landed on this character bullying others, we can show how they know what they are doing is wrong but cant stop.

Though on other hand i really wanted to talk about this show cause I put it on as background noise then got invested and stayed up until 2 to keep  watching. So I highly recommend to watch this show  its soooooo good for no reason.

scheduling

Ok i wanted to create a schedule for us (or more like what i want to get done) for this project. Just to have an idea of what we have to do this upcoming weeks.

Next week
- start the social media page
- as well as creating a story board for our idea
-start posting

Week 3/3-3/9
- get actors
-location
- have a shooting schedule

Week 3/10-3/16
- hopefully start filming
- see changes that need to be done

week 3/17 - 3/23
-   more filming
- see changes that need to be done

Week 3/24- 3/30
- filming
- see changes that need to be done

Week 3/31-4/6
- filming to get done
-start editing

Week 4/7-4/9
- finish the short film
- write the critical reflection

Obviously this schedule is not set in stone its just a timeline I needed to write down to keep track what has to be done each week so that we can finish on time. And sometime things happen that would end up having tweak the schedule but hopefully we can keep on track.  And we should be posting on the social media at least 3x times a week so we would have to find time to make maybe a poster and photos and coe up with way to make the social media page more engage i didnt include it there cause i feel like its mostly a weekly thing.

We Finally Decided!!!

This week we finally sat down and came up with an idea. So we decided to work on the short film option! so our idea cam from a reel on Instagram about writing on the bathroom wall, so it sparked an idea of a romance that starts with writing on the bathroom wall.  we do if we go through the idea have to get around graffiti so maybe we can get washable marker to be able to wash off.  Another thing is having to come up with a full idea on the film we got the characters.

Now I don't have the doc because i cant find where it got sent to at the moment, so i have to ask next class for it. But i know we came up with the idea of having the ending being more dramatic instead of having a happy ending. Where we can have a less cliche romance hopefully.  The idea is to make the characters queer but unable to accept who they are so this would lead to a more of an unhappy ending. The fact that they write down their feelings in an anonymous way would be a cool concept where its back and fourth without speaking and social media wise we came up with some plans like having some post advertising with writing like the the one on the wall. Not too much of an update but an update enough.

Doc research

So documentary if I’m going to be honest I don’t watch any documentary by my own violation unless it’s a murder doc but obviously we aren’t doing one so I went out to search for one that was a topic that interest me that was closer to something we could do a story on.

Now we did do a doc earlier on on the year and I did some research earlier on but I wanted to do research specifically on episodic docs since that’s what the A level project since we have to be promoting one we come up with and Film a clip for it.

The first one is a documentary on Netflix called 7 days out

This documentary is about the 7 days out is about all the preparation put into hosting any huge event.
The actual documentary is interesting because each episode focuses on different people and professions preparing for a huge event that usually people forget need preparation. If my group did decided to do to documentary I think we would lean to this style where there is a common theme of the episode but it doesn't have a continues story through every episode. But through watching these episodes i did learn that with the similar style of filming and interviews that it did feel like a cohesive series without feeling too separate.

Now i could find barley any promotion for this series except post from the cast and crew who posted promo in their own Instagram which does lead the target audience to see the promotional but with Netflix having a big account you would think they would at least post the poster but they didn't. But this did remind me of another Netflix documentary series i did research on earlier in the year this show is called Abstract.

This Instagram page really caught my eye when i first saw it because it  follows a clean, minimalist, and vibrant color scheme with photos and quotes of the artist the made a documentary on this helps the audience get to know the subjects better making them more interested in watching the show. The cohesive aesthetic makes the audience more likely to look through since it draws more attention. For the a level project if my group actually is able to sit down and have conversation and chooses to do a documentary i think this Instagram page would be a great example on how to do a promotional page that is able to highlight each episode and person/ thing its following without giving people whiplash and no connections.

Ok that is basically all for today but hopefully next time I post I will have a definite answer on what me and my group are doing and I can start posting on starting the project! <3

Short film research

I don’t know what are we going to decided so I’m doing research of both…….. Short film ok so this one I’ve done quite a bit cause they are some good ones on YouTube.

My personal favorite

Reply

This short film is about a kid finding old tapes of his mother building a treehouse with a new friend and maybe it turned to something more. I really liked this piece because they were very little dialogue and if screenwriting turns out to not be my strong suit it is nice to see a well made short film not entirely relying on dialogue and still getting the story across also I like how they didn’t have a huge production and different places and instead mainly one location, and how even without needing to move different places you can still have a full story. The clothing showing the time period as well as the effect, it’s a good representation for a romance short film. I also decided to see how they promoted this film, I found it by a short teaser posted on to TikTok that piqued my interest. Which makes sense because a lot of films are promoting there films on TikTok so why would a short film be any different.  They don’t have a separate Instagram specifically for the short film but the director made several post leading up to the release including a trailer and some behind the scenes pictures as well as pictures of scenes in the film.

WWJD

This short film is about 3 girls who accidentally hit a man on the road and are trying to hide the evidence.  This is comedic and was good to watch for if we choose to take a more comedic (or even if we want to have a comedic scene) short film. Being comedic to me personally is one of the hardest things to accomplish because you need timing, as well as in a film sometimes it’s body language that you might need to show different shots for to have a full affect.

That even having the location of a dessert the lighting was very bright making the viewer have a happier even if the theme was actually pretty dark. It was interesting to see how the director decided to show the story with flashback there for comedic timing and how the dark humor didn’t feel dark at all. To see how this was promoted I went to the Instagram and they definitely had some fun with this and you can definitely see the comedic style  it was going for, with unserious posters to behind the scenes edited specifically to make audiences laugh they set it up well in this Instagram.

Starting A level Portfolio

Okay so we started the portfolio project this week and I still have no idea what I’m doing. For this project we have to decide between making trailers, band promotion, short film, or documentary. And my group and I are still trying to decide if we want to do a short film or documentary and we keep coming up with ideas for both but came to zero conclusions on it so we have to discuss it this weekend.

Documentary would be the safer option from both since we already made one, and already have the basics down. And already have a feel for it but the ideas we aren’t coming up with full form ideas but even with like a part of an idea I think we can make it work.

Short film would be more of a challenge I feel would be fun to try. I’ve not done this ever and seems to me personally a fun option but it does seem like I’m going to have to put in a lot of effort and time. Yet again we only have concepts of a plan and I’m not sure how it would turn out if we actually created them but I think they would be cool if done right.

planning for the upcoming week

OK, so we finally finalized everything behind the scenes, so now we must film. So, Nicole isn't getting back until Tuesday, so we...
